It's (not) just lunch!

What happens when the ex-boss and the current boss corner the hapless male editor on a Friday evening into writing a post on the Gay... errr... I mean the GG... for the Orange Blog?

The hapless Elf stays back to finish the assignment, and hands it in just in time as the ex-boss is about to leave.

Posted by Final Proof on behalf of the Elf:

And so we witness the birth of a new gang in the orange building. They are known as the GGs. A group of misfits who have been brought together together by forces of nature, or should I say, the collective appreciation of nature, errr....everything natural.

Here's their profile:

Present Size: 4 (membership still open, but new applicants have to submit CV and await council's approval)
Vision: To grow in strength and power, eventually taking over the entire orange building and converting it into a chick farm
Main Activities: Chick spotting (sounds like a scientific experiment and in many ways, it is!)
Present Project: Compiling a list of sights in the orange building (1st floor only) that will turn one's head
Future Endeavour: To extend the list to all floors of the building, and to make the list 'live'
Hangout: Behind every 'successful' chickadee, is a GG

And now....the question on many a mind: What is a GG?

Good Guy? Gay Guy? Gaping and Grinning? Gossipy Guys? Going Gone? Great Gastronomy? Gooey Gel?

You decide :D

The orange blockbusters

Final Proof has dug out something very cool from her archives.

Though it is a well known fact that most orange people do not have time to watch movies, they did watch some blockbusters in the past.

Here are the favourite movies of the orange people. It is strongly recommended that new editors watch them to understand the culture in the orange building.

Movie - N.A. Confidential
Best time to watch - When the MOE releases the S/E syllabus but refuses to release the NA syllabus

Movie - To Kill a Joking Nerd
Best time to watch - When a bad author asks for 20% royalty

Movie - The Silence of the Lams
Best time to watch - When the Bio authors do not reply to emails

Movie - T.R. – The Extra Material
Best time to watch - When teachers are not happy with the core material

Movie - Pulp Non-fiction
Best time to watch - When 15K copies of a book riddled with errors are printed

Movie - It Happened – One Fight
Best time to watch - When the authors of TS split

Movie - Honey I Flunked the Kids
Best time to watch - When the parent bought the competitor's Revision Guide

Movie - Some Like it — HOTS
Best time to watch - When the pri sci book HOTS gets mixed reviews

Movie - Lamer vs Lamer
Best time to watch - When editors compare manuscripts from two authors to see which is more lame

Movie - Four Leadings and a Template
Best time to watch - When four designers are doing the sample chapter design concurrently

Movie - The Whining
Best time to watch - When six editors quit and their stuff is handed over to the last editor standing

Movie - Food – Still Hunting
Best time to watch – When editors are trying to decide where to have lunch

Movie - Run Away, Hide
Best time to watch - When the author is chasing for her MS to be published in the middle of manpower shortage

Movie - A Clockwork Strange
Best time to watch - When new editors are told that the closing time is 6:03 pm

Movie - The In-deliverables
Best time to watch - When the author does not deliver the manuscript on time

Movie - Pay After Tomorrow
Best time to watch - When the author sends angry email to Accounts saying she has not received any royalties

Movie - Along Came Poly

Movie - The Blast and the Curious
Best time to watch - When heads start bobbing up to see who’s the one getting blasted

Movie - You’ve Gone Pale
Best time to watch - When submission date is approaching very fast

Movie - The Usual — Specs
Best time to watch - When an editor goes to the optician get her eyes tested

The Poll

With the number of guys in the orange building growing to 'gang-worthy' status, our *sources* have revealed the existence of a running poll by guys on the ladies in the office!

Anonymous male rep:
I know work is up to the neck and all
Stress is driving us up the wall
But that's exactly when we should have a ball
To prevent us from taking a big fall

Response from anonymous female rep:
If only there were more guys
then we too can do a polling
But the way things are going
we might as well be counting mice!
Yep, it's unlikely that a corresponding poll on the guys can be run by the girls -- simply because the candidates are few and far between!

The results of the poll? Well, apparently it changes on a daily basis, depending on the grooming and behaviour of the girls on that day! But we hear that girls who look sweet and/or behave demurely are perennial favourites with the guys.

*yawn* What's new?

So, beware girls! They are watching you...

The tea guy

Ever wondered where the tea guys from the canteen upstairs went after they resigned?

On saturday, a bunch of the orange people bumped into Ken, the tea guy from Myanmar, who was here before Rob.

He's working at Cedele now.

Looks like the only way up is out. :D

Friday Faze: Let's Get Personal!

After a looong hiatus, Friday Faze was revived by its two crazy organisers.

The last FF of its kind -- FF5: Mission Up Close and Personal -- was designed to introduce the newbies and allow everyone to get to know one another a teeny bit better. That turned out to be a bonafide hit, so the idea was to recreate the experience as 90% of people from the last FF had already left...

Behind the scenes...

Hurdle 1:
Like the last one, a (new) list of survey questions was sent to everyone. As usual, it wasn't easy to get everyone to tear themselves away from their pressing work and fill in the 'frivolous' survey, save for some co-operative and kind souls. But in the end, almost everyone sent in their replies.

Hurdle 2:
Food for the event was provided by the canteen upstairs for convenience. Plus at $3 per person, there weren't a lot of other options! There was also a limited budget of $15 for prizes! :O

D-Day

The early-birds:

Girl talk

The three musketeers

The crowd munching on the surprisingly decent fare (samosas, sandwiches, tea, coffee) from the canteen while waiting for the others:

Munch munch

Yakety yak

More munching

Finally, it begins...

Part 1: Who's Who?

The co-host at work

The anticipating crowd

Task: Everyone had to introduce themselves and name four of their immediate cubicle neighbours*, or suffer a forfeit!

* Some people had pillars for 'neighbours' so it couldn't be helped :P

XW's turn

Amused

*Unfortunately, the two hosts were so caught up in the event that they completely forgot to take photos after Part 1! :O*

Part 2: MCIS's Believe It or Not!

Information gathered from the survey revealed some interesting trivia like these:

Votes were also tallied for the coolest guy and gal, and the most admired person.

Part 3: The Quiz Show

Everyone was divided into 5 groups to guess the correct answers to the tricky questions. Here're some of the most intriguing ones:
