Computation of Top 5

There was much controversy yesterday as cries of "Censorship?!" and "We want the REAL results!!" greeted the release of the Sept Top 5 rankings. Of course it didn't help that our dear Fab Five Ringleader himself didn't know what was going on. (Luckily for him, Captain Haddock isn't planning to spark off a revolution to seize his throne.)

Well, Captain Haddock is here now to dispel the myths and chase away the rumours: There is NO censorship and the real results ARE shown. Just to create some sort of transparency (and so that no one thinks this whole Top 5 shenanigans is rigged), Captain Haddock will show you how it's done.

Each Fab Fiver is required to submit their personal Top 5 and rank each lady from 1 to 5 in order of preference (what kind of preference that is, we didn't specifically pin down, but it's probably just simply "hotness"). Once all the five different Top 5s are in, our IT department will run a simple program to determine the overall Top 5.

:::WORKED EXAMPLE:::

Let's use a simple example of just two Fab Fivers, B and D, involving fruits. They rank their fruits in order of preference and in descending order.

B's Top 5 fruits
1. Watermelon [5 points]
2. Papaya [4 points]
3. Orange [3 points]
4. Durian [2 points]
5. Pomegranate [1 point]

D's Top 5 fruits
1. Apple [5 points]
2. Orange [4 points]
3. Coconut [3 points]
4. Lychee [2 points]
5. Watermelon [1 point]

Each position has a number of points allocated to it. First position is 5 points, second position is 4 points, third position is 3 points, fourth position is 2 points and fifth position is 1 point.

So each fruit's points are added up and the Top 5 fruits are obtained. Higher points wins.

1. Orange ---> 4 + 3 = 7 points
2. Watermelon ---> 5 + 1 = 6 points
3. Papaya ---> 4 points
4. Coconut ---> 3 points
5. Durian, Lychee ---> 2 points
6. Pomegranate ---> 1 point

So there you have it. Throw in the results of the other Fab Fivers' Top 5s, add up the points, and Bob's your uncle.

Hope this has been at least a little enlightening.
